“I love progress but I love history,” said Vegas native and performer Franky Perez onstage at the Carnival Midway of Circus Circus at the album release show for the soulful Latin-flavored and bilingual “Damelo” album by Franky Perez and the All Nighters.
The performance was most definitely one for the books, marking the first time a musical act took over the Midway stage for a full show. The bleachers were packed and fans crowded into the surrounding areas to watch the dynamic showman and his huge band—that includes a pumping horn section, not to mention showgirl dancers—light up the carnival atmosphere.

Perez was inspired to perform at Circus Circus since it holds a special place in his heart, having enjoyed the carnival attractions there with his family since he was eight years old. And here he was, many years later, playing a show with his band and putting it into overdrive with a red-hot cover of Creedence Clearwater Revival’s “Proud Mary,” as the Flying Poemas family trapeze act swung high above him.
Thanks to the event, lots of extra media attention has poured in not only for the band but for the family-geared hotel that opened its doors in 1968. Will Perez and his band return there for an encore performance? That just might be in their cards.
