Las Vegas Mixtape v50: “Absinthe” at 15, Outdoor Dining, and a Music/Circus Mashup

Track #1: “Absinthe” @Caesars Palace

15 years in, “Absinthe” still dazzles, thanks to its high-flying without-a-net circus acts and anything-goes, ultra-dirty cabaret-style comedy delivered by a fast-talking coed team (“did they really just say that?”). It’s a wild combo platter that continues to work—it’s smart, sophisticated, subversive…and, well, downright fun.

“Absinthe” is brought to you by the mad folks at the Spiegelworld entertainment company and is imaginatively staged under their big top "Spiegeltent" right in front of Caesars Palace. After their 15th anniversary show, Spiegelworld head Ross Mollison and his cohorts threw a circus-themed (of course) bash for the cast, friends, and media outside in the adjacent Green Fairy Garden. It saluted not only the show itself, but the creative and colorful community of Vegas.

The glorious “Absinthe” has you covered seven nights a week (Sunday-Thursday at 7pm and 9pm, and Friday-Saturday at 7pm, 9pm and 11pm).  Looking to watch beautifully chiseled trapeze artists and hand balancers impossibly stacked on top of each other? Might you be wondering about that exhilarating burlesque-style synchronized “Chicks On Sticks” act where beautiful women move through the air while attached to big sway poles? Curious to witness a logic-defying act with performers who can instantly change costumes right in front of you and not behind any curtains? If that's the case, all your needs will be met here. Long may "Absinthe" run.
